Tal-y-Llyn Railway

The Tal-y-Llyn steam railway runs from Tywyn to Nant Gwernol at Abergynolwyn and is the world's first preserved railway. It is a very pretty trip. You can go part way to Dolgoch and take in the falls. There is also good walking at Nant Gwernol. Or you can just enjoy the main interest of the historic trains and coaches. Full details on www.talyllyn.co.uk.

There is a good museum at the Tywyn station, as well as a shop where there is a plethora of "Thomas the Tank Engine" goods. The Rev W Awdry, who wrote Thomas, was a keen supporter of the railway and his son is president of the Tal-y-Llyn railway.
