Barmouth Bridge

Railway bridge

Part of the bridge seen from the "point" at Fairbourne.

A walk on a footpath next to the railway line across Barmouth Bridge. It is a flat walk with stunning views over the Mawddach estuary. There is a small toll charge payable at the Barmouth end, although this is often not collected out of season.

The walk starts at Morfa Mawddach station on the Dolgellau-Tywyn road. where there is a free car park.

You can get to the bridge by walking along the platform and taking the gate at the far end.

Mawddach estuary

View from further along the bridge.

The path is obvious, first there is a paved section, then a long section over the wooden paved bridge. The large span over the deeper river at the Barmouth end is perfectly safe now, but examination will reveal that the bridge is not is good condition. Hopefully it will be restored in the not too distant future in order to keep the coast rail service open.
